Secretary Blinken and Niue Premier Tagelagi signed a joint statement.
Secretary of State Antony Blinken recently joined Niue’s Premier Dalton Tagelagi in the signing of a joint statement declaring the establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and the nation of Niue. Both nations dedicated themselves to cooperation on a number of shared priorities, including the climate crisis, the management of ocean life, and military security in the Pacific Ocean.
“The establishment of diplomatic relations between the United States and Niue marks a historic achievement that will further reinforce the friendship and deepen the bonds that exist between our two nations,” State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said. “The United States looks forward to our continued and strengthened partnership with Niue.”
The U.S. also recognized the Cook Islands as a sovereign state, establishing diplomatic relations with them for the first time.
As the Lord Leads, Pray with Us…
- For Secretary Blinken to look to the Lord for direction as he heads U.S. diplomatic efforts.
- For the president and members of his administration as they seek to strengthen ties with allies in the Indo-Pacific.
- For wisdom for U.S. officials as they work to counter China’s influence around the world.
